Four Characters In Search Of a Narrative

Another image from that collection of old photographs I’ve acquired over the years, which fall under the general heading of “Found Photographs”. As usual, the questions of who, where and when must go unanswered – but that means we can make up our own stories. These are four characters in search of a narrative.

This photo has wonderful clarity and contrast. That unknown camera could challenge any iPhone today. The doorway is not the entrance to a shop, I think, but to a firm. My guess is that they are clerks and typists to some central city establishment, characters in a 1910 version of “The Office.” It would be interesting to see an A.I. interpretation for a different decade.
