A car stands outside a back street shop. This is such an unusual sight that a crowd gathers and everyone is keen to be included in the photograph. A boy sits in the car radiating excitement. A girl sits alongside him, confident in the fact that this will be the first of many such journeys. This is a moment that will be remembered a long time; the day a car came to Halifax, or was it Elland, or maybe Brighouse.
I’m not so sure that this car is the focus of attention. I think it’s what in the back seat! A few bushels of crabs (?) and maybe some eels! That would be way more memorable for a child, or an adult for that matter. It does beg some important questions: Was this a delivery or a pickup? And who got the job of cleaning the upholstery?
