Considering The Task

At least one of my regular followers will recognise the location of this photograph and will probably be able to be more precise about the date. It might appear that my wife was considering the task at hand - that task being a bit of gardening. But no, she will have been reading her revision … Continue reading Considering The Task

Back Yard

Continuing the unintended theme, we move from back street to back yard. I'm almost certain this particular back yard was in Sheffield, but I can't remember whose it was! No conceptual artist could have put together a collection of bins, fences and drainpipes with greater skill.

Back Street Breeding

I'm not too sure which back street this was but as it comes from the same strip of negatives as the last two, it probably led up to Charles Street in Elland. Such back streets that remain are now breeding grounds for plastic wheelie bins and the stone sets are lost under layers of tarmac.

I'd like to be able to say that I remember the day, but I can't. It's a very long time ago. … Continue reading Those Shoes

Shouting Shadows

There is an element of stillness and simplicity in black and white photos from forty or fifty years ago. I took this photograph of Charles Street in Elland around about 1980. Shadows shout louder than colours, shapes crowd out distractions.

Happy Monday

Mountains merge into water: both are part of the raw beauty that is North Wales. Two mud-stuck boats fight a rearguard action on behalf of colour. Happy Monday.

On The Front

We travel to the far border of something in order to gaze out at nothing. It's a funny life.
