Today’s “Postcard From Home” is a bit of a mystery. Someone has carefully captioned it, “Dalemore, Halifax”, and there are references to a house called Dalemore in Savile Park, Halifax, although on Google Street View, it doesn’t look the same as this fine property. Nevertheless, things change in the 100 years since this photograph must have been taken. The property also looks vaguely familiar – and things have undoubtedly changed in the more than fifty years since I used to walk down Savile Park on my way home from school.
I lived at Dalemore, No 8 Savile Park upon returning to live in Yorkshire from London in 2000, a fine house! well it was after we restored it and reinstated original Victorian firelplaces etc… it had been ‘updated’ along Art Deco lines, NOO…we bought from the well known Dr Janet Cockroft’s estate. sold in 2003….
