It’s Wednesday 12th May 1937 and the entire country is celebrating – it’s the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Whilst most eyes were focussed on the grand events in London and the other big cities, The Stage decided to look at the entertainments provided for the good folk of Halifax on that day. Events were held at Manor Heath, Shibden Park and Savile Park and no expense was spared in attracting the very best entertainers to the town. The Special Constabulary Band played at Manor Heath before Marcella and Sills showed off their acrobat skills and Fall and Hould did their comedy knock-about act. At Shibden Park Joe and Arthur Stanley made people laugh and Lucette and her Accordion Band kept them humming away. At Savile Park Kit Kelly sang, Dot danced and Bert played the piano. A day to remember indeed.
