An early colour photograph of mine (note the pre-decimal currency) and one where the exposure left a lot to be desired. What it lacks in technique it makes up a little for in atmosphere and in the light from the windows of that cathedral of commerce that was Halifax’s Borough Market.

Didn’t you have some b&w shots at the same time with one of the Porter brothers on his Saturday job?

That’s the one! His brother was Tony Porter who had a career organising Flea Markets all over the country. When Jimmy was working in the market Michael Nichol and I had Saturday jobs in M & S.

You’re not the Peter Brown who went to Crossley & Porter in the 1960s are you?

Good gracious me! Hello Peter, it’s certainly a very long time ago, but I remember you well (and I’ve probably a few photos somewhere)

It is a while since you were going out with Helen Gammie and I was dating Anne Sunderland! The only person from school I am in regular contact with is Carol Smale (nee Brook) who lives near Durham. I came to University in Newcastle and never left, marrying Jane, a fellow architecture student. I went with Carol to a school reunion in 2007 and as it happens Helen was there. There is a photo of that reunion I can send but I was the only bloke from our year.
